Impressive dilatation of azygos vein due to congenital anomaly of inferior vena cava.

چکیده
A right-sided thoracotomy was performed for pulmonary metastases in an asymptomatic patient. Preoperative computed tomography (CT) scan showed partial thrombosis or agenesis of the inferior vena cava (Fig. 1). Intra-operatively, an impressive dilation of the azygos vein was noted (Fig. 2). The azygos vein or superior vena cava was not invaded by tumour. Fig. 1. Preoperative thoracic CT scan showing specific venous anomalies: absence of inferior vena cava and dilated azygos vein prevertebrally, not filled with contrast. A lung metastasis is present in the right lower lobe. Fig. 2. Intraoperative view showing impressive dilatation of azygos vein secondary to absence of the inferior vena cava. In case of invasion of the azygos vein or superior vena cava, radical resection and reimplantation in the right atrium would have been required.

Congenital absence of the intrahepatic segment of the inferior vena cava with azygos continuation presenting as a mediastinal mass.
A child with the isolated anomaly of azygos continuation of the inferior vena cava is presented. The interest of this abnormality lies in its detection as a mediastinal mass on the chest radiograph. Computed tomography with intravenous contrast enhancement is the method of choice to diagnose this venous anomaly. Awareness of the caval-azygos abnormality is important to surgeons and cardiologist...
متن کاملScimitar sign with normal pulmonary venous drainage and anomalous inferior vena cava.
A case of the scimitar sign due to an anomaly of the right sided pulmonary vein with normal drainage into the left atrium was associated with an azygos continuation of the inferior vena cava. Digital subtraction angiography allows the identification of these rare congenital vascular malformations.
متن کاملA case of anomalous inferior vena cava with azygos continuation associated with situs inversus totalis and acquired mitral valvular disease.
NOMALOUS inferior vena cava with azygos or hemiazygos continuation has been considered to be a very rare anomaly in the past. However, since the development of cardiac catheterization and angiocardiography, this congenital abnormality has been reported with increasing frequency. This anomaly is usually associated with other cardiovascular defect, and there are few reported cases without other m...
متن کاملInfrahepatic caudal/inferior vena cava interruption with azygos/hemiazygos continuation. Vascular anomaly in swine
BACKGROUND Swine are commonly used as a model to study congenital cardiovascular defects that occur in humans and these models have been both spontaneous and experimentally induced. Ventricular septal defect, patent ductus arteriosus, and atrial septal defect (ASD) are examples of experimentally induced models. Absence of caudal/inferior vena cava (CVC/IVC) with azygos/hemiazygos continuation i...
متن کاملHeterotaxy syndrome and interrupted inferior vena cava (IVC) with azygos continuation
Heterotaxy syndrome or situs ambiguous is a rare congenital disease in which the pattern of anatomical organization of the thoraco-abdominal visceral and vascular structures is not arranged in normal position. Patients with heterotaxy syndrome represent a wide range of anatomical variations including thoraco-abdominal structures. Here we report a rare case of asymptomatic heterotaxy syndrome in...
